This is McWhirters Building in the valley. I took this photo one afternoon after having lunch at The Vietnamese restaurant just up the road. Great looking building, built in an art deco style. Construction of McWhirters building was completed in 1931. It was designed by Brisbane Architects Hall & Phillips, who also designed Brisbane City Hall. In its hey day it was a bustling and fashionable retail hub with trams running up and down the valley streets. These days the upper floors have been converted to apartments and the ground floor is filled with cheap eateries, groceries and various retail outlets.

West End wall
We visited some friends in West End recently and as we made our way home I spotted this silhouette on a warehouse wall. I just love it.
Paddington black house & cactus
I park outside this house sometimes when I am at work in Paddington. A brave move to paint the house black, but I just love it. Nice and simple renovation, not too busy, always the best way to go. I met the owner recently and he told me that cactus seeds for the stunning cactus plant were sent over from Venezuela 60 years ago to the woman who then owned the house. It is called "Lady of the Night Cactus" or if you prefer "Cereus Hexagonus". It flowers around Christmas time for about a week and only between the hours of 10 pm and 3am. Amazing don't you think!
Geebung green house
This house is in Geebung. The main thing I love about this house is the colour, as well as the flowering Poinciana tree, the flat roof and the absolute neatness of the house and yard.
